I recently was in Florida and I had the pleasure of chatting with a gentleman from Canada. I recently researched and wrote an article for a political magazine on the subject of health care and where each of the candidates for the office of POTUS stood on the subject. I was naturally curious about asking one who actually lives there to check the accuracy of my research. I asked him if his healthcare is free and his reply was 'yes'. He added that all hospitalization costs are free as well. I then asked him if it is true that Canadian's pay more in taxes than we do here in the USA. He replied in the affirmative, and also added that the top income earners pay about 47-48% of their pay in taxes. Astounded, I asked him how much you have to make in Canada to be included in this top income tax bracket and his reply to my amazement was $75,000. (How do you think that would go over here in the USA?) He also told me that during his stay in Florida, his kid got sick and they had to take him to a pediatrician. He was overflowing with praise about the doctor that they took his kid to see. I asked him was was so great about this doctor. His reply was that the doctor actually talked to his kid and asked him questions on how he was feeling. When I asked how health care visits go in Canada, he told me that the doctor comes in and does not do much more than write a prescription and then exits the exam room. Hard to believe that this is the system that is held up as an example of how our health care should be run. Needless to say, we are not hearing anything about the cost (monetarily or otherwise) of this utopian health care system from the alphabet networks. Wonder why?
